PHILADELPHIA, MARCH 2, 2007 - State Sen. Christine M. Tartaglione read the Dr. Seuss classic “Green Eggs and Ham” to a group of William H. Hunter School second graders on Monday as part of a local and national program to encourage adults to read to children. “A great education starts with the simple act of reading a book to a child,” Tartaglione said. “I’m hoping to remind all parents and siblings that everyone has a role in stimulating young minds.” Tartaglione’s visit to the school was part of the “Read Across Philadelphia” program, itself a part of the “Read Across America” effort. She was among the more than 500 civic leaders participating across the city on the birthday of Theodore Geisel, who wrote under the pen name Dr. Seuss. “His creations proved that, while reading can spark the mind and teach valuable lessons, it can also be fun,” Tartaglione said. “It’s a joy to see the smiles on all of those faces.” After the reading, Tartaglione donated the book to the school. |
