TARTAGLIONE PROMOTES HEALTH AWARENESS IN HISPANIC COMMUNITY

HARRISBURG, MARCH 14, 2007 - State Sen. Christine M. Tartaglione today joined with community leaders and medical experts to help launch A Su Salud, a month of activities designed to make Hispanic Pennsylvanians more aware of ways to preserve their health.

“Many families in Pennsylvania are struggling to survive economically and overlook their physical survival,” Tartaglione said.  “We are working on ways to make it easier to find good advice and quality services.”

A Su Salud (“To Your Health”) is a joint project of Congreso De Latinos Unidos and the Pennsylvania Medical Society.  It includes free health screenings throughout the month of March, along with multi-media events and printed resources.

A bilingual health advice booklet is available at Tartaglione’s District Offices, 1061 Bridge St. and 3263 North Front St., Philadelphia.

“In health care, as in other important facets of life, information is power,” Tartaglione said. “It’s vital to our communities to spread healthcare information and to provide answers to questions.”

A Su Salud will present cooking shows on the Telemundo network Saturday morning at 10:30.

Free health screenings are available at the following locations:

·          Temple Community Medical Center, 4231 N. 5th St., March 16, 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

·          Episcopal Campus, Temple University Hospital, 100 E. Lehigh Ave., March 24, 10 a.m.            to 1 p.m.
