TARTAGLIONE APPLAUDS WEST FAIRHILL BUILDING PROJECT

HARRISBURG, APRIL 2, 2008  -- State Sen. Christine M. Tartaglione today applauded the completion of a state and local financial partnership to develop a 40-unit townhouse project in the West Fairhill neighborhood.

At it’s March meeting, the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency approved nearly $2 million in loans and tax credits to construct the Evelyn Sanders Townhomes at Percy and Hutchinson Streets.

“Affordable housing is the bedrock of stable communities,” Tartaglione said. “Dozens of families will be able to turn these houses into homes and provide a foundation for future generations. I applaud the cooperation among the agencies involved for helping make this dream come true.

According to PHFA, Evelyn Sanders Townhomes, Phase I, will offer 40 rental units in seven new two-and-three-story buildings. There will be 16 two-bedroom, 12 three-bedroom, and 12 four-bedroom apartments, including eight units that are accessible to persons with mobility impairments and two units for persons with hearing or vision impairments.

PHFA will provide $843,814 in PennHOMES rental housing program funds and $1,149,989 of housing tax credits to build the facility, which is being developed by a subsidiary of the Women's Community Revitalization Project, an experienced city developer of housing for persons in need. The organization will also manage the finished complex and act as a service provider.

Domus, Inc., of Philadelphia, is the general contractor. Kramer Marks Architects of Ambler is the development's architect.

Additional financing is being provided by the City of Philadelphia and TD North Bank Foundation. The National Equity fund is also making $9,424,658 available besides the financing provided by PHFA.

“It’s no secret that many of our neighborhoods have seen better days,” Tartaglione said. “I hope that we can continue to rebuild, revitalize and restore community pride across North Philadelphia.”
