HARRISBURG, April 12,2007 – State Sen. Christine M. Tartaglione today reminded students and families that May 1 brings an important deadline for state help with college costs. “With college tuition rising every year, state grants can bridge the gap for many families,” Tartaglione said. “It is important to remember this critical deadline.” May 1 is the Federal Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) deadline for all new applicants who plan to enroll in an undergraduate baccalaureate degree program and those in college transfer programs at two-year public or junior colleges and all renewal applicants regardless of their educational program. Tartaglione said students and families can find more information on completing the FAFSA at www.PHEAA.org. Students who are first-time applicants planning to enroll in a business, trade or technical school, a hospital school of nursing, or a terminal (nontransferable two-year degree) program at a community, junior or four-year college have until August 1st to file the FAFSA to qualify for a State Grant award. Students with general questions about completing the FAFSA or the State Grant Program can also call PHEAA at 1-800-692-7392. Starting April 15, students can also complete and submit the FAFSA via telephone using the new Tele-FAFSA system by calling 1-800-4-FED-AID. |
