HARRISBURG, APRIL 23, 2007 - The state Senate today passed a resolution sponsored by Sen. Christine M. Tartaglione recognizing May 1 as “Law Day” and the month of May as “Law Month” in Pennsylvania. “The primary purpose of the celebration is to teach children about their legal rights and responsibilities and to share with them the essence of being an American citizen,” Tartaglione said. Throughout the month, schools, attorneys and judges will be working together to arrange for classroom visits and other activities. The annual Law Day is part of the Pennsylvania Bar Association’s partnership with the Pennsylvania Bar Foundation, the Pennsylvania Department of Education and the Pennsylvania Coalition for Representative Democracy (PennCORD). The theme for 2007 is “Liberty Means Responsibility.” “Children of all ages, in grades kindergarten through 12, will have the opportunity to explore the ways in which they can have an impact on our world,” Tartaglione said. |
