TARTAGLIONE REMINDS SENIORS TO SIGN UP FOR RENT REBATES

HARRISBURG, September 26, 2007 - - State Sen. Christine M. Tartaglione today reminded senior citizens eligible for the state’s property tax/rent rebate program that they have until December 31 to apply for a rebate check.

“Eligibility for the program has been greatly expanded,” Tartaglione said. “But seniors must fill out an application to get their check.”

Only an estimated 61 percent of eligible senior citizens have applied for the rebate program statewide and Tartaglione wants to make sure that busy Philadelphia families get their due.

“I know that it’s not easy to keep up with all the forms and deadlines while raising a family,” she said. “This could be a costly deadline missed.”

Tartaglione said the rebate checks are based on property taxes or rent paid during 2006.

Those individuals eligible for the program include Pennsylvanians age 65 and older; widows and widowers age 50 and older; and people with permanent disabilities over 18 years of age.
