HARRISBURG, JANUARY 26, 2007 -- State Sen. Christine M. Tartaglione is reminding seniors to check whether they are eligible for property tax and rent rebates, even if they were not eligible before.

     “Hundreds of thousands of seniors are eligible this year who were not before,” Tartaglione said.  “Income limits to qualify for the program have more than doubled, and the maximum rebate has also risen sharply.”

     Several casinos have already opened in Pennsylvania, and much of that money is headed toward property tax relief for all homeowners in Pennsylvania.  But, last year, the legislature made certain that even without the slots revenue, seniors get more relief this year than ever before.

     “Before deciding that you don’t qualify, you should check the income limits,” Tartaglione said. “It could be worth as much as $650.”
