HARRISBURG, March 27, 2008 – State Sen. Christine M. Tartaglione today welcomed hundreds of driven and accomplished guests from across Pennsylvania to the Pennsylvania Latina Women Symposium. Tartaglione sponsored a Senate resolution recognizing the event, which attracted panelists and speakers with diverse backgrounds and accomplishments. She praised “their contributions to family, community and country.” “The Senate of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania applauds the Latina Women Symposium as it celebrates Latina Day; (and)notes with pride the genuine effort it has made to promote goodwill, understanding and the exchange of culture,” the resolution read. Morning discussions in Leadership Panels at the State Museum in Harrisburg were followed by a luncheon at the nearby Keystone Building. Luncheon speakers included Lillian Escobar-Haskins, a former demographic researcher and business owner, now serving as director of the Pennsylvania Department of Health’s policy office, and Edinboro University student Jennie Angelina Morgan Velez. “Strong Latina women are the backbone of thousands of families in my district,” Tartaglione said. “It is encouraging to see them emerge from this role of quiet support to find their voices and take their places among Pennsylvania’s leaders. Their future is bright.” The Latina Women Symposium was organized the Governor’s Advisory Commission on Latino Affairs. For more information visit: http://www.gacla.state.pa.us/gacla/site/default.asp
