SENATE DEMOCRATIC WRAP-UP FOR THE WEEK
OF OCTOBER 15, 2001

HARRISBURG -- The Senate this week unanimously passed Senate Bill 596, which amends the Second Class Township Code to clarify that a township supervisor shall not be prevented from serving on a board or other commission that provides advisory recommendations to the board of supervisors. Under the legislation, a supervisor serving on such board or commission shall not participate in any deliberation or vote conducted by the board of supervisors where the board or commission recommends the expenditure of funds.

The Senate reconsidered the vote by which it passed House Bill 815, which reestablishes the Board of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws. The bill was re-referred to the Rules committee, where it was amended for clarification and re-reported to the full Senate. The amended bill passed by a vote of 47-0.
