HARRISBURG -- The Senate unanimously passed Senate Bill 380, which amends the Crime Victims Act to give crime victims the right to comment before an offender is released from boot camp and to provide notice when he is released. The bill has been referred to the House Judiciary Committee **** House Bill 101, which passed unanimously, would allow counties or counties in conjunction with state or local governments or both to purchase agricultural easements which cross county lines. The bill would also eliminate the $10,000 per acre cap of state funds that counties are eligible to spend, and also would transfer section 1716 from the Administrative Code to the Agricultural Area Security Act. This section created and funded the Land Trust Reimbursement Grant Program and the Long Term Installment Purchase Program. The bill has been returned to the House for concurrence in Senate amendments. **** Liquor manufacturers would receive a tax break under Senate Bill 243, unanimously passed by the Senate this week. The bill would repeal the tax currently imposed on manufacturers who produce or distill spirits and wines in Pennsylvania. The bill has been sent to the House. **** House Bill 328, which passed unanimously, would make it a second-degree misdemeanor to desecrate a veterans markers. The bill has been sent to the Governor. **** The Senate unanimously passed Senate Bill 612, which waives the $10 fee for background checks performed pursuant to the Criminal History Records Information Act for persons who wish to apply as volunteers with a rape crisis center or domestic violence shelter. The bill has been sent to the House. **** Senate Bill 280, prohibiting the sale of products containing dog or cat fur, skin or hair, passed the Senate unanimously and was sent to the House. |
