SENATE DEMOCRATIC WRAP-UP FOR THE WEEK OF
MARCH 24, 2003

HARRISBURG - - The Senate this week unanimously approved Senate Bill 164, which would protect more people who come to the aid of crime victims from being sued.

Under the legislation, the list of crimes for which civil immunity is granted to rescuers would be expanded to include arson, simple assault, harassment, stalking, and homicide while driving under the influence.

The legislation now goes to the House.

              In other action:

-- The Senate unanimously approved Senate Bill 152, which sets civil penalties for misappropriating trade secrets that were acquired or disclosed improperly. The bill authorizes money damages for actual losses and/or unjust enrichment to the person who misappropriated the trade secret.

The bill now goes to the House.

            -- With America at war in Iraq, the Senate unanimously approved Senate Resolution 59, which recognizes the bravery and professionalism of American armed service personnel serving in the Middle East.
