HARRISBURG - - The Senate this week unanimously approved Senate Bill 80, which defines the powers and duties for State System campus police.

The measure would give State System campus police the same law enforcement powers on university property that municipal police officers have in their jurisdictions.

While university grounds would be the primary jurisdiction of campus police, universities could enter into mutual aid agreements with local municipalities allowing them to enforce the law in the communities overlain by or abutting the university.

The bill now goes to the House.
