Free Breast and Cervical Cancer Treatment Available to Eligible Pennsylvania Women

This week I joined the PA Breast Cancer Coalition at a news conference in the Capitol Rotunda to promote a very important program - Free Breast and Cervical Treatment for women who are under or uninsured.

The facts are:

  • 25 women in Pennsylvania will be diagnosed with breast cancer today.

  • Breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths in Pennsylvania in women between the ages of 25 and 54.

  • Approximately 9,000 women in Pennsylvania are diagnosed each year with breast cancer.

  • Approximately 2,000 women in Pennsylvania die each year of breast cancer.

  • There are approximately 103,000 women in Pennsylvania living with breast cancer.

We must put an end to these dire statistics by making sure women know that there is help out there. Unfortunately many women - and many health care providers - are not aware of Senator Hughesthis program or how it can benefit breast cancer patients. That is why I was so happy to join with the PA Breast Cancer Coalition to publicize the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania’s Breast and Cervical Cancer Prevention and Treatment Program (BCCPT).

This issue has become even more critically important as more and more Pennsylvanian women lose their jobs due to the economic difficulties gripping the entire nation. With loss of employment comes loss of insurance.

These women shouldn’t be left without life-saving medical treatment and this program ensures that they receive the quality care they deserve.

If you or your loved ones have been diagnosed with breast cancer and need FREE TREATMENT, call the PA Department of Health’s Healthy Woman program at:

To be eligible for this FREE treatment, you must:

  • Meet applicable income guidelines
