Welcome
to another edition of Northeast Notes!
Thousands of children in Northeast
Philadelphia are heading back to school, and
whether they are walking, taking the bus or
getting a ride, motorists should be extra
cautious of youngsters. Stick to the speed
limit and obey traffic signs and signals; be
courteous around SEPTA busses and yellow
school busses, and drive cautiously in
school zones. Let’s all do our part to
ensure that
students have a safe and happy school year.

State Programs Now Available for Autistic
Adults
Pennsylvania now offers programs designed
specifically for adults with autism spectrum
disorders.
The
Adult Autism Medicaid Waiver and the
Adult Community Autism Program (ACAP) offer
a variety of services that meet the needs
of autistic adults through the
Pennsylvania
Department of Welfare’s Bureau of Autism
Services.
Often, when we talk about autism spectrum
disorders, we focus on programs that benefit
children, but there are many autistic adults
who want and need support for a better
quality of life. This is an important and
necessary step toward treating the autism
community with the attention it deserves.
Specialists can help individuals work on
goals like finding and keeping a job,
socializing, exploring personal interests
and communicating effectively. Respite and
family counseling is also available to loved
ones.
