SB 44, PN858: The legislation authorizes the Department of General Services, with the approval of the Governor, to grant and convey a parcel of land located in Susquehanna Township, Dauphin County to the Millennium Neighborhood Church Inc.  A 49-0 vote was recorded.

SB 133, PN900: The legislation amends the Vehicle Code to increase the penalties for multiple driving under the influence convictions by extending “look-back” periods for habitual offenders and by increasing the grades of certain offenses committed by persons driving under the influence.  Additionally, the bill authorizes the sentencing court to require the installation of an approved ignition interlock device on motor vehicles owned by a person with a single DUI conviction.  The installation is mandatory under a second or subsequent conviction.

A1153(Orie): This is a technical amendment.  It changes wording in the bill from “paragraph” to “subsection” where it appears.  A 49-0 vote was recorded.  

SB 498, PN901: The legislation amends the Public School Code to add a section creating parenting involvement programs.  The bill requires school boards to establish a parent involvement program, parent involvement policy and parent involvement committee. 

A1154(Rhodes): This amendment extends the due date for the copies of the parent involvement program and policy to the Department of Education to June 30, 2004.  A 49-0 vote was recorded.   

SB 503, PN722: The legislation amends the Public School Code to direct intermediate units to provide support and to coordinate academic improvement programs for certain school districts.  The bill also establishes academic improvement teams for certain school districts and provides for duties for the Department of Education.  A 49-0 vote was recorded.  

SB 596, PN658:  The legislation amends the Public School Code to authorize school districts to design and implement a program that provides a course on character education in consultation with an advisory group to be established by the district.  The bill also establishes a character education grant program in the Department of Education, which would distribute grants to eligible school districts.  A 42-7 vote was recorded. 

SB 673, PN902: The legislation amends the Agriculture Education Loan Forgiveness Act by expanding the program to include teachers of agriculture education.

A1144(Waugh): This is a technical amendment.  It merely changes wording in areas of the bill to clarify certain language.  A 49-0 vote was recorded.
