PASSED THE SENATE

SR 26, PN 238  This resolution designates March 6, 2005, as “Lymphedema D-Day” in Pennsylvania.  A 45-0 vote was recorded.

SB 18, PN 11  This bill amends the Crimes Code by adding gaming offenses to the definition of “racketeering activity” for the purposes of investigating corrupt organizations.  This legislation was previously introduced in the 2003-2004 legislative session as an amendment to Senate Bill 1209.  Sen. Mellow called for a positive vote on the bill, but suggested that the bill did not go far enough in barring members of the Senate from owning any stake in state gambling enterprises.  He called for a Senate rule banning Senators from owning any stake in state gambling enterprises, as the state House has enacted for its body and as the Governor has decreed by executive order for his administration.  Sen. Piccola responded that such a provision could not simply be a rule, but must be statutory.  A 45-0 vote was recorded.

SB 148, PN 133  The bill amends the Public School Code to require that certain school districts revise their professional educational plans and to require the Department of Education to create a clearinghouse of continuing professional education programs.  Similar legislation passed the Senate unanimously in the previous session, but was not acted on by the House.  A 45-0 vote was recorded.
