PASSED THE SENATE

SB 795, PN 887: This bill would provide appropriations to the Public Utility Commission for the 2007-08 fiscal year. A vote of 49-0 was recorded.

SB 34, PN 1045: This legislation would protect the right of Pennsylvania mothers to nurse their children in public. Sen. Connie Williams offered amendment A703, which was technical in nature. The Senate agreed to the amendment, and the bill went over as amended.

SB 729, PN 988: This bill would require the state Treasurer to post the salaries of all state employees on the Internet and to update this information monthly.

Sen. Fontana offered amendment A754, which would have removed the requirement that employees’ names be posted and would have required the posting of salaries of employees of state-related institutions (such as the Pennsylvania State University) and state-affiliated entities (like the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission). Sen. Fontana argued that this change would have protected state workers from identity theft, while preserving the intent of the legislation, even expanding it to include public agencies that have to date resisted releasing salary information. Sen. Pileggi noted that there is pending legislation that would address state-related institutions by amending the Open Records Law and expressed his belief that it would be inappropriate to address this issue at this time. A vote of 20-28 was recorded on the amendment, and the amendment was defeated.

Sen. Boscola offered amendment A731, which expands the bill to include all local elected officials and employees of local governments, local authorities and commissions, and school districts. A vote of 48-0 was recorded on the amendment.

Sen. Pileggi offered amendment A732, which permits agencies to request the redaction of the names of law enforcement officers involved in undercover work. The Senate agreed to the amendment, and the bill went over as amended.

SB 782, PN 1046: This legislation would amend the Radiation Protection Act to increase the fees paid by nuclear power facilities for plant safety, monitoring, and emergency planning. Sen. Mary Jo White offered amendment A663, which was technical in nature. The Senate agreed to the amendment, and the bill went over as amended.
