Sen. Wozniak offered amendment A1651, which would have cut this appropriation in half and designated the remainder for a competitive museum grant program. Wozniak noted that there are hundreds of museums in Pennsylvania that receive no state funding and those that do receive funding employ lobbyists to protect their appropriation. Sen. Pileggi noted that the current non-preferred appropriations for museums all date back at least 10 years and that funding levels would be nine percent lower than last year’s budget. A vote of 21-29 was recorded on the amendment, which was defeated.

A vote of 39-11 was recorded on the bill.

SB 954, PN 1136: This non-preferred appropriations bill would designate funds to the Franklin Institute Science Museum. A vote of 39-11 was recorded.

SB 955, PN 1137: This non-preferred appropriations bill would designate funds to the Academy of Natural Sciences. A vote of 39-11 was recorded.

SB 956, PN 1138: This non-preferred appropriations bill would designate funds to the African-American Museum in Philadelphia. A vote of 38-12 was recorded.

SB 957, PN 1139: This non-preferred appropriations bill would designate funds to the Everhart Museum in Scranton. A vote of 38-12 was recorded.

SB 958, PN 1140: This non-preferred appropriations bill would designate funds to the Mercer Museum in Doylestown. A vote of 38-12 was recorded.

SB 959, PN 1141: This non-preferred appropriations bill would designate funds to the Whitaker Center for Science and the Arts in Harrisburg. A vote of 38-12 was recorded.

SB 726, PN 1170: This legislation would amend the Mechanics’ Lien Law of 1963 to make a change to the residential construction exclusion, to prohibit a lien in excess of the unpaid balance of the contract price, and to require that a lien be subordinate to certain mortgages. A vote of 50-0 was recorded.

SB 737, PN 1188: This bill would repeal the sunset date for Act 141 of 2002, which permits the State Police to use underage employees to conduct compliance checks of establishments selling alcohol. Sen. Rafferty offered amendment A1588, which changed the sunset date repeal to a 10-year extension for this program. The Senate agreed to the amendment, and the bill went over as amended.

SB 810, PN 907: This Democratic-sponsored legislation would authorize the sale of property in Pittston to the local redevelopment authority. A vote of 50-0 was recorded.
