Sen. Wozniak offered
amendment A1651, which would have cut this appropriation in half and
designated the remainder for a competitive museum grant program. Wozniak
noted that there are hundreds of museums in Pennsylvania that receive no
state funding and those that do receive funding employ lobbyists to
protect their appropriation. Sen. Pileggi noted that the current
non-preferred appropriations for museums all date back at least 10 years
and that funding levels would be nine percent lower than last year’s
budget. A vote of 21-29 was recorded on the amendment, which was
defeated.
