PASSED THE SENATE

 

SB 468, PN 1255: This bill prohibits the General Assembly from convening a lame-duck session, unless it is special session. A vote of 41-8 was recorded.

HB 496, PN 2086: This bill amends the Radiation Protection Act to increase the fees paid by nuclear power facilities for plant safety, monitoring, and emergency planning. A vote of 50-0 was recorded.

HB 635, PN 720: The bill amends the County Code to move the date that county auditors must complete their audit and make reports to the court of common pleas and to the Department of Community and Economic Development. A vote of 50-0 was recorded.

HB 778, PN 2167: This bill amends the Fish Code providing for the classification of offenses, penalties and chemical testing of individuals operating watercraft under the influence of alcohol or controlled substance. Sen. McIhinney offered amendment A2424, which precludes an individual who has caused an accident resulting in serious bodily injury or death from serving their sentence on house arrest with electronic surveillance. The Senate agreed to the amendment, and the bill went over as amended.

HB 842, PN 2169: The legislation amends the Public School Code to require that the Department of Education may only place a teacher’s certificate in inactive status between June 30 and July 31 for noncompliance with continuing education requirements, and the bill also authorizes funding for education programs for the 2007-08 fiscal year. Sen. Rhoades offered amendment A2513, which sets out educational funding levels negotiated for this year’s budget, makes provisions for Duquesne school district employees and students, establishes powers of a superintendent in an empowerment school district, and prohibits caps on charter school enrollment. A vote of 46-4 was recorded on the amendment, and the bill went over as amended.

SB 857, PN 1260: This bill amends the Second Class County Port Authority Act to provide for additional oversight and additional appointments to the Board. Sen. Orie offered amendment A2458, which prohibits elected or party officials from serving on the Port Authority Board and makes a technical change. A vote of 30-20 was recorded on the amendment, and the bill went over as amended.

HB 1169, PN 1535: The legislation designates a bridge in Allegheny County as the Roger F. Duffy Viaduct. A vote of 50-0 was recorded.

HB 10, PN 2168: The bill amends the Crimes Code providing for the Criminal Justice Enhancement Account and further providing for burglary. Sen. Piccola offered amendment A2453, which decouples state judicial salaries from those set for the federal judiciary. A vote of 40-10 was recorded on the amendment, and the bill went over as amended.
