PHILADELPHIA, February 5, 2019 –State Senator Art Haywood (D-Montgomery/Philadelphia) issued the following statement today supporting Governor Tom Wolf’s Budget Address for the 2019-2020 fiscal year:
“Following Governor Wolf’s address this morning on the Pennsylvania budget, I fully support increasing the efficiency and savings in the operation of government.
“I am proud to support the priorities contained in Governor Tom Wolf’s proposed budget. There is no better way to build for the future than by investing in our educational institutions, affordable healthcare, and decent pay.
I support the Governor’s plan for education. Funding public schools and enhanced career and technical training will connect the underemployed with high-wage, high-skilled jobs and provide our youth with more educational opportunities to excel with a focus on literacy and STEM fields.
The Governor is seeking creative ways to increase work opportunities including raising the minimum wage. I think the Governor’s program will work, and we will work with him to make it so.
This budget ensures protections for the most vulnerable and creates opportunities for everyday Pennsylvanians. I have my concerns about the budget, but I stand with Governor Wolf.”
