Unfortunately for Philadelphia, the mayor is apparently happy when people leave the city because they are the very people who would eventually vote against him. I share your concerns and agree that he must set the example for the rest of government by cutting back waste in his own office. For example, do we really need to have as an assistant to the mayor, a "fitness expert" who is by all accounts overweight herself and lives in New Jersey. If we were to just eliminate her job, we would probably have enough money to hire two more police officers. This is the kind of nonsense we have gotten from John Street from the day he took office. This is in sharp contrast to the way Ed Rendell started his administration, by literally cleaning up City Hall. And unfortunately for all Philadelphians, it was Ed Rendell who gave us John Street as mayor. And, if he is elected governor, it will be Ed Rendell who gives us John Street for a second term.
