The Senate recently adopted a resolution asking for a comprehensive review of the property tax system in Pennsylvania, and what other states such as Michigan and Ohio have done. last week, Senate Democrats successfully offered an amendment to the state budget to give all school districts a more than 13 percent increase in basic funding, a portion of which would be dedicated to property tax relief. Unfortunately, the House of Representatives stripped the amendment from the budget. We are hopeful it will be restored in the final budget by the same bipartisan coalition that agreed to the Democratic funding initiative in the first place.
