Every proposal that would lower property taxes for homeowners should be put on the table and considered. That's one of the reasons why I've pushed so hard for a comprehensive study of tax options and have encouraged my colleagues to join me in examining every proposal that would lead to real tax relief for homeowners. For the last several years I have offered amendments to do just that. One of the quickest ways to dedicate state resources to lower property taxes is to adequately fund public schools. Sadly, state funding as a part of local school budgets hovers around 35 percent, down from 42 percent a few years ago.
