Williams Issues Statement Concerning Vandalism at Mt. Carmel Cemetery

Harrisburg – February  27, 2017 – Following reports about vandalism at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Philadelphia, state Sen. Anthony H. Williams (D-Philadelphia/Delaware) issued the following statement:

“I want my friends, colleagues an associates of Jewish descent to know, that the cowards that knocked down the headstones at Mt. Carmel cemetery, will never be able to knock down the human spirit that has allowed your ancestors to survive numerous atrocities.

“The bond that was created decades ago, between African-Americans and Jews in the middle of the civil rights struggle, becomes reignited in this moment. An attack upon an American based solely on hate, is an attack upon all Americans and our country’s foundation of liberty and justice.

“Shalom.”
