SB 668, PN 1830 (Gordner) – This legislation amends the Optometric License and Practice Act to provide for expanded practices of optometrists.  The bill repeals Section 4.3 which requires the Secretary of Health to approve any drugs prescribed by or administered by optometrists.  Senator Gordner offered amendment A09410, which expands upon the definition of “practice of optometry” and adds a violation for advertising a prohibited service by an optometrist. The amendment was approved by a vote of 37-12 and the bill went over in its order as amended.

SB 891, PN 1203 (Argall) – Amends the State Lottery Law to require the Pennsylvania Department of Aging to cross-check their list of PACE and PACENET beneficiaries with death records maintained by the Pennsylvania Department of Health.  A vote of 49-0 was recorded.

HB 1917, PN 2815 (Ryan) – HB1917 amends Title 22 (Detectives and Private Police) to provide for additional qualifications for appointment, training, oversight and continuing education for humane society police officers.  A vote of 49-0 was recorded.

SB 521, PN 1040 (Killion) – This bill amends the Public School Code of 1949 to require the Department of Education to further develop academic standards for instructing students in grades 9-12 on pulmonary resuscitation.  Senator Killion offered amendment A09066, which provides for a new set of guidelines for cardiopulmonary resuscitation education for students in grades nine through twelve.  The amendment was approved via voice vote and the bill went over in its order as amended.
