Senator Wayne Fontana

Harrisburg, April 29, 2020 – State Sen. Wayne Fontana (D-Allegheny) today provided the following statement in support of the state Senate Democratic proposal for distributing Pennsylvania’s $3.9 billion in federal stimulus dollars.

“It is crucial that we check politics at the door on this one. State lawmakers from both parties and both chambers must work cooperatively, constructively and quickly on a plan to invest its $3.9 billion share of federal stimulus dollars.

There are a lot of people hurting out there. We need to put this financial lifeline to work immediately. With today’s announced stimulus spending proposal, my Senate Democratic colleagues and I have hopefully opened this crucial legislative discussion and negotiation.

Our proposal would directly help struggling families, front-line medical personnel and workers, reeling local governments and provide key grants and loans to small businesses to help them bridge this devastating and disruptive freeze in their operations. I am also pleased with our educational component that would invest stimulus dollars in schools and childcare operations.

I hope we can quickly get together and negotiate a workable investment strategy that will help Pennsylvania quickly overcome the dire impact of this pandemic.”
