The Senate unanimously passed House Bill 728, which would require emergency shut-offs to be installed on all fuel dispensing systems.

Under the legislation, the shut-offs would be between 20 and 100 feet from the fuel dispenser, with the farthest fuel dispenser no more than 200 feet away from the master control emergency shut-off. The shut-offs must disconnect power to all dispensing devices; power, control and signal circuits; and, electrical equipment in hazardous or classified areas around the fuel dispensers.

The House concurred in Senate amendments to the bill and it now awaits the governor’s signature.

By a vote of 47-2, the Senate passed House Bill 1478, which would allow Erie County to increase its hotel tax from 5 to 7 percent.

It is estimated that the 2 percent increase in the hotel tax would raise an additional $1.05 million annually. The revenue from the tax increase would go to the county’s tourism promotion agency fund.

The bill is now on the governor’s desk.
