PHILADELPHIA – July 25, 2019 – Senator Street will join PA Secretary Redding on Friday, July 26th at 3pm at Hansberry Garden located at 5150 Wayne Ave., Philadelphia, PA to announce the first comprehensive farm bill package to invest in agriculture across the Commonwealth, including the first ever Urban Agriculture Grant Fund.

The new fund will offer reimbursement grants for projects that focus on developing urban farms and market opportunities. Grants will be awarded to improve agriculture infrastructure in urban areas, the aggregation of product, sharing of resources, and support for community development efforts.

“There are tremendous opportunities for urban farmers who often turn blight into community gardens providing access to locally sourced fresh food and combating the food insecurity that plagues many of our communities.” Said Senator Street.

This event is an opportunity to highlight the important work being done by urban farmers and community gardeners across the city and state.
